About our bacon

What is British back bacon?

Back bacon is the bacon the British eat for breakfast. It is cut from the pork loin with a rim of fat, so every rasher is mostly lean meat. German Frühstücksspeck and American bacon are usually streaky belly bacon.

Where is Geordie's bacon made?

In Germany. Our master butcher, a family business in its fifth generation, makes it from German pork using the traditional British method. Geordie's was founded by Laura and Raphael, who moved their family from the UK to Germany and could no longer get proper bacon after Brexit.

How is it made?

Every piece is dry-cured by hand for ten days with salt and spices – no injected brine, no added water, no phosphates. Our smoked bacon is then cold-smoked for 24 hours over organic beech wood. That is why it hardly releases any white liquid in the pan and shrinks less.

What are the ingredients?

Pork, salt, spices, sucrose, antioxidant: ascorbic acid, sodium nitrite (E250). Our smoked bacon is also smoked over beech wood.

Smoked or unsmoked – which should I choose?

Smoked has a robust beech-wood flavour; unsmoked is mild and lets the pork speak for itself. Can't decide? In the Mix contains 500 g of each.

Will it go crispy?

British back bacon is traditionally cooked at medium heat until golden and juicy, not crispy. If you like it crispier, simply cook it a little longer. More tips in our guide How to cook back bacon.

How long does it keep? Can I freeze it?

Unopened in its original packaging, it keeps for up to 30 days in the fridge. It also freezes very well, which is handy if you order a larger pack.

Is it the same as Canadian bacon?

Almost. Both come from the loin. Canadian bacon is just the lean eye and usually wet-cured; British back bacon keeps a rim of fat, and ours is dry-cured.

Ordering and delivery

Which packs can I buy?

1 kg (two 500 g XL packs) smoked, unsmoked or mixed for € 44.90; the Super Saver with five packs (2.5 kg) for € 89.80; and Bacon Overload, 5 kg in one piece for € 119.90, made to order.

When do you ship and when will my bacon arrive?

We don't dispatch on public holidays, the day before, or from Christmas week until New Year. Every product page shows the expected delivery date.

How is the bacon packed?

What does delivery cost?

Germany: € 4.90 with DHL, free on orders over € 45. Overnight Chilled Delivery: € 19.90. EU countries: a flat € 16.90 per order, usually 2 to 4 working days. Delivery to a Packstation usually takes at least one day longer.

Do you deliver outside Germany?

Yes, to most EU countries, for example Austria and the Netherlands.

Can I give bacon as a present?

Yes. Our gift voucher is available from € 20 to € 200, and our "Bacon Lover" apron and cutting board cost € 15 each.

What happens to the packaging?
